Environment—greenhouse gas
MS BERRY (Ginninderra) (4.01): I move:
That this Assembly:
(1) notes:
(a) cities have a key role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to addressing the critical economic, social and environmental consequences of climate change;
(b) that the ACT has established greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets—targets of zero net emission (carbon neutrality) by 2060 and a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by 2020; and
(c) the Government has established a comprehensive strategy to achieve its reduction targets, and is already implementing important initiatives including:
(i) the Royalla 1 20mW solar power facility to be built by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, the largest solar power facility to be built in Australia to date; and
(ii) the Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme which will help Canberrans save money while also making substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions; and
(2) resolves that Canberra as a city must continue to implement a comprehensive strategy to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
