MR WOOD (continuing):

an offer to carry on the traditions that have been established. There has been too much intrigue; but, with all that, no discussion with me by the organisers. I cannot accept the nomination. I look forward to continuing in a constructive and productive role on the floor of this Assembly.

The Clerk: Is there any further proposal?

The time for proposals has expired. There being no further proposal, I declare Mr Greg Cornwell, the member proposed, to have been elected as Speaker.

Mr Speaker having taken the chair -

MR SPEAKER: I wish to express my thanks for the honour the Assembly has conferred upon me. I would also like to thank Mr Wood for his words.

ELECTION OF CHIEF MINISTER

MR SPEAKER: The next item of business is the election of a Chief Minister.

MR HUMPHRIES: I propose that Kate Carnell be elected as Chief Minister for the Australian Capital Territory and I move:

That Ms Carnell be elected Chief Minister for the Territory.

MR SPEAKER: Is there any further proposal?

MR BERRY: I propose that Jon Stanhope be elected as Chief Minister for the Australian Capital Territory and I move:

That Mr Stanhope be elected Chief Minister for the Territory.

MR SPEAKER: Is there any further proposal?

MS TUCKER: I propose that Kerrie Tucker be elected as Chief Minister for the Australian Capital Territory and I move:

That Ms Tucker be elected Chief Minister for the Territory.

MR SPEAKER: Is there any further proposal?

The time for proposals has expired. Do you wish to make a few comments, Ms Tucker?

MS TUCKER: Yes; thank you, Mr Speaker.

MR SPEAKER: Proceed.
