Swimming Pool Charges

Mr Cornwell - asked the Minister for Sport -.

(1) Have the proposed 1 July increases to charge swimming clubs for use of all lanes taken effect and if not, why not.

(2) Is consideration being given to reviewing these charges

and if so, when might this review be completed.

Mr Berry - the answers to the Member's questions are as follows:

(1) No, the proposed fees were not put into effect because of

concerns on access and equity between clubs and the differing

facilities available at Government controlled pools. The

issue of charges for lane hire was extensively. examined in

consultation with swimming groups. I have submitted a

proposal to the Treasurer and the outcome is expected to be

announced and implemented shortly.
